Fly spirit

Fly spirit, always up
as the grafeful kite.
The air will not arrest it
if it leads it thorugh the skies.

Free and light as a deer
that joyful bounces in the woods,
among pines, conifers and misletow
and tree strawberries.

A flaming rose in its heart
or is it maybe a white snowflower.
The edelweiss holds the same purity
as that of the Spirit sent by God

It must also have in its wings
the soft velvet of the flower
born up in the mountains
near to Heaven where Love lives.

The spirit turns back,
change its heart from climbing up.
For now?it will dwell on earth
blessed by the Lord.

Vola esperit

Vola esperit, sempre enlaire
com vola gràcil l'estel,
que no aturarà pas l'aire
si el fa voleiar pel cel.

Lliure i lleuger com el cérvol
que salta alegre pel bosc,
entre pins, avets i grèvol
i cireretes d'arboç.

Al cor té una rosa encesa
o una blanca flor de neu,
l'edelweiss té la puresa
que l'Esperit rep de Déu.

També deu tenir a les ales
el suau vellut de la flor,
que neix dalt de les muntanyes
prop del cel on viu l'Amor.

Torna l'esperit enrere,
d'enlairar-se s'ha desdit,
de moment viurà a la terra
i el Senyor l'ha beneït.

Montserrat was born in Bergadà, in the village of Puig-Reig, but as a child moved with her family to Gavà.

She has always had the wish to read and write prose and poetry. She writes in Catalan with a very simple style. She has published several writings. From 1984 she has collaborated with Saint Peter’s Parish in Gavà, in charge of the weekly news leaflet, and also writing for the Diàleg, a little magazine that specialises in articles and poems. It also offers literary prizes for children yearly, and the possibility to take part in a Poetic Debate.

This poem is born out of a vital experience. It was written shortly before a heart surgery intervention, when she didn’t know whether she was going to overcome it. The ending was added afterwards. She dedicates it to Francesc Giner, her beloved husband, always her aid and support. Montserrat has a daughter and two grandchildren.
